General questions

    How does it work?

    1. Seller posts a hotel reservation on Cancelon.


    2. Buyer selects a reservation Buyer wants to buy.


    3. Buyer buys the reservation via Cancelon. Seller will get the payment a day after the check-out day, to prevent Seller from selling the hotel reservation to more than one Buyer.


    4. Both Seller and Buyer should follow rules and formalities of the hotel.

    Do I need to put my personal information public so I can buy/sell?

    In order to complete a transaction on Cancelon, both Seller and Buyer may be required to provide their full name to the other side of the transaction. However, it will not become public. 

    How can I update my profile?

    If you would like to edit your profile please sign in and go to My Account. Select my My Profile and edit and change the information you would like to update. Your information will not become public.

    How do I create a password?

    You sign into your account with your email and password. When creating your password, please follow these tips:

    Your password must be at least 6 characters

     Other password tips:

    * Don't use a password that is similar to your email address.
    * Don't use a common passwords or passwords with number or letter sequences (example: 1234abcd)
    * Don't use personal information that others can easily obtain or guess (example: your name, phone number, or birth date).
    * The longer and more complex your password is, the harder it will be to guess. Place numbers and punctuation randomly in your password.
    * Create a password that is secure, but still easy for you to remember. 
    * After creating your password, protect it. Don't share your password with others.
    * Don't use the same password for your other online accounts, such as email, bank, and social networking accounts.

    Note: We will never ask you to provide your password by email.

    How are payments made when there is a deal?

    Cancelon allows its customers to use a variety of credit cards including Papal. The Seller of a reservation will get the sum the Seller asked for (less a fee of 10%) via PayPal. This payment will take place a day after check out.

When you are a seller

    How do I sell a hotel reservation?

    Many travelers are not aware that their unused reservations are transferable. Sometime transferring a reservation is free and sometimes there is a fee for changing the name on the reservation. However, not all reservations are transferable. That’s why it’s essential that the Seller contacts the hotel or the online travel site before Seller offers the reservation on Cancelon.com.

    To get started, after confirming with the hotel that the reservation is transferable, please follow these steps:

     
    1. Go to the Home page and enter your criteria at the “Sell” section.


    2. If you are not logged in, you will then be directed to log in or to register in case you are not yet registered. If you are not yet registered you will be asked to fill in your profile information.

     

     

     

    3. Check the details of the item you are selling.

     


    4. If a Buyer is interested in your posting, Cancelon will contact you and will ask you to provide it with a confirmation from the hotel or the online travel site- a confirmation with the name change/ adding the name of the Buyer on the reservation.  You will also be asked to email us your original hotel reservation.

     

     

    5. Seller will get the payment a day after the check-out day. This is to avoid a re-sale of a reservation.

    What do I need to do to be able to sell my unused reservation in Cancelon?

     

    You will need to register on Cancelon.com. Once we find a Buyer to your reservation and the Buyer already checked out, we will ask you to provide us with your Paypal (paypal.com) account.

     

     

     

    How do I change the name on my reservation?

    Contact the hotel and ask them if and how you can change the name on the reservation. Normally there are no costs, but make sure it is the case with your reservation as well.
    If you made the reservation via a booking site, you will probably need to contact them as well and ask them to send you a confirmation email with the name change.

    Please note! It is you, the Seller, that is responsible to make sure a name change on the reservation is allowed by the hotel and that a future Buyer can use your reservation. In addition, once a transaction has occurred, it is the Seller's responsibility to call the hotel and/or the booking site and change the name on the reservation or add the name of the Buyer.

    Can I edit or remove my listing?

    When you sign in to Cancelon.com you are be able to see all your listings under "My Account" page. You are then able to view, edit or remove your listings at any time until a Buyer purchases your reservation. 

    How do I price my listing?

    When you price your listing, you need to balance how much money you want for your the reservation you are posting with what you think buyers will pay for. You can strategize your pricing by searching what others have asked for.

    You can also change the price of your reservation as the check in date gets closer.


    Know the rules for Sellers in Cancelon policies on prohibited and restricted sells, and what's OK or not OK when listing and completing a sale in our User Agreement and Privacy Policy.

    How do I find out if someone has purchased my reservation?

    If someone purchased your reservation via Cancelon, we will contact you via your email or phone. To make sure you receive our emails, please add support@cancelon.com to your contacts or safe sender list.

    How much does it cost to sell my reservation in Cancelon?

    You can post your unused hotel reservation on Cancelon for free.

    If we find a buyer to your listing, then you pay Cancelon a fee of 10% for mediating the transaction.

     

    Will the hotel use buyer´s credit card or seller´s (credit card)?

    Room reservation bought on Cancelon are paid in full so there won't be any additional costs for the room.
    However, during check in, the hotel may ask you to present a credit card that will be used for incidentals expenses, which are costs incurred during the stay at the hotel (such as wifi & room service).

    My original reservation is for 3 different rooms. Can I sell all of them on Cancelon?

    Yes. You can post as many rooms as possible and we will do everything we can to assist you to sell them.

    You can start by posting one or two rooms and write a comment saying how many rooms you have in case someone is interested in more then one.

    We strongly recommend you also post it on Facebook and twitter as we see it increases the chances to sell it in 50%. If you send us the link we will also share it on our social media pages.

    My original reservation is for 4 nights but I want to sell only 3- Is that possible?

    Currently our platform allows selling a reservation as one unit only and does not allow the split of a reservation. However, since the reservations sold on Cancelon have a 60% discount on average, for most buyers it would be cheaper to buy the 4 nights than buying 3 nights on a different online booking site. The key is to make your price attractive to potential buyers.

    I have a credit of a 3 nights´ hotel reservation with no fixed stay dates (other than that it must be used before the end of the year). How do I list this?

     You can send us the reservation information and we will post it for you.

    Alternatively, you can post your reservation for different sets of dates (preferably those that you think may be attractive for users) and once you sell one of the posted reservations, you can delete the other postings (Deleting a posting is done very easily through your Cancelon account).

    It is also recommended to add in the Comment section of your postings that the dates are flexible so if potential buyers are interested in changing the dates, they know it is possible- This will increase your chances to sell the reservation.

    How can I increase my chances to sell a reservation

     You can increase your chances to sell a reservation in the following ways:


    1. Share it with your network at Facebook and/or Twitter or any other social media.
    Our data shows it increases your chances to sell a reservation by 50%.


    2. Writing the reason for the cancellation in the “Additional information” form section also increases credibility and your chances to sell a reservation.

When you are a buyer

    How do I get a proof of my reservation?

    We will send you a reservation confirmation with your name on it. To make sure you receive our emails, please add support@cancelon.com to your contacts or safe sender list.

    How do I buy a reservation on Cancelon?

    1. Search for a reservation here.


    2. Check the details of the reservation you selected from the list. Make sure it is what you are looking for.


    3. Buy it- If you are interested in a reservation, click “Book this Room” at the bottom of the page.

     

    Cancelon will transfer the money to Seller only a day after the check out day.

    How do I find out how much I need to pay for a reservation?

    You can check out the price on the page of the reservation you have selected. If you think the offered price is too high, you can make an offer to the seller. The seller will be notified about your offer immediately and can choose whether to accept it or not.

    How do I avoid fraud when buying a reservation via Cancelon?

    Before buying a reservation have a look at our guidelines for a secure transaction in our Buyer Protection. It is important that you get informed about the formalities with the hotel and follow them. In addition, you should know that once you’ve bought a hotel reservation, we don’t transfer the money to the Seller until one day after the check-out date.

    Can I cancel a reservation bought on Cancelon?

    A user who can't use a reservation bought on Cancelon, can post it on Cancelon and sell it to other users. All reservations on Cancelon are non refundable unless the cancelation policy indicates otherwise. We will do everything we can to help you sell a reservation you can't use nor cancel. 

    Will the hotel use buyer´s credit card or seller´s (credit card)?

    I found an attractive reservation on Cancelon for 4 nights, but would like to buy only 3 nights. Is that possible?

    Currently our platform allows the purchase of a reservation as one unit only and doesn't allow the split of a reservation. However, since Cancelon's prices are VERY competitive (including the option to make an offer), in many cases buying a 4 nights reservation on Cancelon and only using 3 would be cheaper than buying from another online booking site.

     

    Please note! If you decide to check-in after the original check-in date of the reservation you bought, please notify the hotel about it.

    I booked a room from a user for $45 but I see the voucher includes the amount of $100. Will I need to pay the $100 for my booking?

     The price that you see on the voucher we sent you is the original price the seller paid for. The price you paid us is the final price you will need to pay for your booking. There won't be any additional costs for the room.

    However, during check in, the hotel may ask the buyer of the reservation to present a credit card that will be used for incidentals expenses, which are costs incurred during the stay at the hotel (such as wifi & room service)
